Teddy's story...

Teddy's story...

Our journey with Teddy began with so much joy. At our 20-week scan, however, we received the devastating news that our darling little boy had a severe Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), leaving him with only a 15% chance of survival. His condition meant there was a hole in his diaphragm, causing his organs to rise into his chest cavity and preventing his lungs from growing properly.
We were heartbroken. Up until this point, our pregnancy had been smooth sailing. As our world fell apart, Teddy began to kick so hard, as if he was telling us he wanted to fight. We knew he was a strong little boy so we were going to do everything possible to help him.
At 26 weeks, we underwent a procedure to encourage his lungs to grow. Within two weeks, we were finally given some positive news, his lungs had doubled in size, and the severity was moved down to moderate. We started to believe that this was going to work and our little boy would actually be coming home with us.
However, at 29+6 weeks, the day after Teddy’s baby shower, I went into premature labour, I had also become unwell due to an infection caused by my waters breaking undetected a day or so before. The infection caused Teddy’s heart rate to be too high, so the decision was made to deliver him by emergency C-section.
Theodore ‘Teddy’ John Biggs was born on Monday 18th September 2023, at 9:14 am, weighing a tiny 2lb 10oz. Our brave little boy fought bravely for 24 minutes before slipping into his forever sleep. He was just too tiny, and his lungs hadn't had enough time to develop. We truly believe that if he had reached full term, he would be here with us today, and would now be 9 months old.
9 months on, it's still hard to believe this happened to us. Losing a child goes completely against nature. All we want is our baby boy back in our arms. He was, and is, so perfect—the most beautiful little boy we now have to love from afar.
We have vowed to live each day in his honour. We know Teddy wouldn’t want us to stop. We will share his story, making sure the world knows who he is and how important he remains. We will continue raising awareness for CDH and baby loss. We will try to have as many adventures as we can so that when the time comes where we are all together again, me and his daddy we will have countless stories to share with him.
