Tabitha's story...

Tabitha's story...

My husband and I were really excited to attend our 12 week scan of our second baby, back in July 2024. We went in the room eager to see our baby, and everything seemed ok, until the sonographer went quiet. We didn’t understand what had happened, or what she had seen on the scan, and she asked us to wait in a nearby side room and told us that someone would be in soon to talk to us and explain. You don't know what it is, but you automatically know something is wrong, and all these scary and confused thoughts are running through your mind. It seemed like an age until a nurse came in to us and attempted to explain what had been found on the scan of our sweet baby. The measurements behind the baby's neck were raised which indicated a problem. I just cried and cried in disbelief, this baby was so wanted and so loved already! We did a lot of tests to get definitive answers, including bloods being taken and then an amniocentesis. A procedure to insert a needle through my stomach and in to the placenta to remove cells for a more accurate findings. We waited for what seemed like forever for the results to came back, with the heart-breaking news that our baby girl had Edwards syndrome.
Both my husband and I did a lot of research in to this condition;  we read medical information, searched online groups, we listened to podcasts etc but ultimately we made the difficult decision to have a medical termination.
Our baby girl’s prognosis wasn’t good. If she had made it to 40 weeks, as soon as she was born she would have to have several medical procedures, which wouldn’t guarantee life. I gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, after being induced at 16 weeks 1 day, on 7th August 2024, and we named her Tabitha ♡
We have so many precious memories of her, including a recording of her heart beat, hand and foot prints, and photos. Physical reminders she was here, she was real, and she was loved her whole life. We have spoken to our now 3 year old about his baby sister, and he talks about how she is living safe with Jesus.

I can’t help but look up at the beautiful sky and think of her xxx
